Tom Watson Snr
Inducted 2025
Retiring from driving in 2012, 1985 West Australian and 1987 Australian Speedcar Champion Tommy Watson Snr has made an indelible mark on the speedway industry.
Tommy’s trophy cabinet is also decorated with four consecutive Presidents Cups, multiple New Year Derby and Gold Cup wins and the 2003 Perth Motorplex Track championship.
A WASDA Life Member, Tommy has supported and mentored many racers, with his Watmor Engines race shop a hive of the WA Speedcar community where he also designed and built Speedcar chassis.
Tommy’s legacy continues through the generations as Tommy Jr a two-time state champion and daughter Renae the first woman to win a feature race at Claremont Speedway, and now the third generation of Watson and Matich grandchildren are becoming established in the sport, under the watchful eye of their grandfather who maintains his approach of meticulous preparation and a tight budget.
Tommy is the sixth West Australian Speedcar driver to be inducted into the Australian Speedway Hall of Fame, coming from a golden era that produced some of the best drivers in the nation’s history.
