Sid Middlemass
Inducted 2025
Winning on debut at the Sydney Royale in his own car in 1963, “Scarem” Sid Middlemas sent a clear message to the speedway world that he had arrived on the scene, and was quickly invited to drive for multiple team owners throughout his career.
His crowning achievement however was winning the Grand Final of the Craven Filter National Driers' Championship 50 lapper at the Sydney Showground and lapped the field and broke the 50 lap record in the process.
He would stand on the podium 11 times in that season with five wins, establishing him as one of the greats of the golden era of Speedcar racing in Australia.
Sid’s career was marked by being a fan favourite entertainer, and it’s been noted that his high-line, fence-hugging driving style brought him undone almost as many times as it brought him success!
Sid has become an inspiration and mentor to many racers, and has served in multiple roles on multiple committees including the NSW Speedcar, Compact Speedcar and Vintage associations.
Sid is the eighth NSW based Speedcar driver to be inducted into the Australian Speedway Hall of Fame.
