Wally Kermond
Inducted 2023
Starting his career in the 1950’s at Westmead Speedway in Sydney, Wally Kermond established himself as a major drawcard as a Micro GP Midget star in the 1960’s and 70’s at Liverpool, and travelled all over Australia to secure six national GP Midget Titles.
Wally also served on multiple committees and is now hailed as a life member of both the NSW GP Midgets and Modified Sprintcar Associations.
Perhaps the most remarkable achievement of Wally’s racing career, is that he is still competitive after 60 years of racing at a staggering 86 years of age, recently claiming a runner up result in his beloved GP Midgets. Wally continues to mentor young and not so young drivers, and introduce more racers to the sport, often supplying his own car to racers to get them established.
Everyone who knows him loves him, and Wally has unintentionally amassed a legion of followers and fans, from people for whom he has simply signed an autograph, through to racers who have had him stay by their hospital bedside after a major incident. He is everyone’s mate, and a true legend of speedway.
