Bill Meyer

Bill Meyer was the Australian pioneer of what is now a multimillion dollar industry… Speedway merchandise.

For every speedway T-shirt, hat or sticker you see today, Bill Meyer was the first to produce them in Australia, creating a huge industry for competitors, fans and venues that are now standard-issue promotional items.

He achieved all this while also being Australia’s most prominent Speedway Photographer from the 1960’s to 1990’s, producing the famous Speedway Star Publications and inspiring the next generation of media contributors in our sport. Bill also created a booming Speedway Tourism market, taking Australians to America, and vice versa, passing on the Speedway Star business to son Wayne, that still exists today.

Bill was also highly instrumental in Australia’s interest at Knoxville Raceway and the Nationals, leading his first tour in 1980, and introducing the Australian flag and National anthem to track promoter Ralph Capitani.

And his famous Speedway photo decals were not just a hit in Australia but around the World, suppling to legends such as AJ Foyt, Richard Petty, and Steve Kinser.

We are proud to posthumously induct the inspirational Bill Meyer into the 2023 Australian Speedway Hall of Fame.
